Abstract

Transport for Health developed a policy to improve patient access to health services. Trips to health services in NSW form a large proportion of passenger transport demand. Transport disadvantaged people usually experience socioeconomic and health disadvantage, or who live in rural and/or isolated communities. The transport difficulties disadvantaged people face also affects NSW Health’s ability to assist those in the poorest health. The policy integrates non-emergency health-related transport throughout the Area Health Services in New South Wales (NSW) into one program delivered by a variety of transport providers with government agencies.
