Abstract
In the field of transport, car ownership is seen as becoming commonplace. Differing forms of transport no longer compete on equal terms. Meanwhile a combination of metropolitanization and urban sprawl is serving to reorganise space. These two changes actually happen to be interlinked. The new ways of organising space would be unfeasable without forms of mobility of which the motor car is often the key means. The author argues that any endeavor to produce a form of transport policy aimed at reducing inequalities or ensuring greater social cohesion should not be abandoned.
