Abstract
This Land Transport Strategy document offers objectives, policies and plans with the potential to significantly improve the economic and social wellbeing of the for the next twenty years. It fulfils the formal requirements of a Regional Land Transport Strategy for the period 1999 to 2004 and incorporates the Regional Passenger Transport Plan. The Strategy represents a balanced vision of local government and transport organisations represented on the Regional Land Transport Committee. The Committee recognised the need for change to ensure the region’s ongoing economic growth. Those changes include a level of additional road user charges to fund new transport projects earlier than under current funding arrangements. In the longer term pricing may be used to manage congestion. [Country: NZ]
