Abstract
HKIA is one of the most user-friendly airports because simplicity and clarity was considered right from the beginning of the design stage. The purpose of this study was to provide an overview of the universal design provisions in the Hong Kong International Airport and how the Airport Authority has continuously improved the facilities to the latest statutory requirements and provide convenience to passengers. The design concept of the airport will be briefly described with examples of how universal designs are incorporated. The study will show examples of how universal designs are continuously applied to further developments of the airport complex such as the recently completed North Satellite Concourse and Sky Pier Ferry Terminal and the same will be incorporated in future developments. Besides the hardware, the study will describe the various kinds of passenger services provided to help passengers with special needs supported by appropriate training of the colleagues and service providers.
