Abstract

Bogotá D.C. Does not count with the urban space its street system requires to grow or with the necessary space to park vehicles and alleviate the mobility situation. In 1998, the public transportation model BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) was chosen as the mobility solution and the local bus, Transmilenio came into the picture. This strategy brought along the renovation of the streets and public space infrastructure with the creation -along its corridors- of various stops. In their surroundings, these stops generate urban impacts that established particular dynamics that correspond to urban centralities. The Master Mobility Plan proposes an interchangable modal system as a strategy to find sollutions to mobility, aiming at improving the city's inhabitants' life quality in social, environmental, and economical aspects. Additionaly, in order to achieve this goal, the Secretary for Mobility undertook a factability study for the "implementation of interchaning passanger modes in Bogotá and its regional surroundings." Based on this study's results, this graduate thesis analyzes how these insersions can be improved in order for them to produce a minimum impact and rather help bring together the urban network, improving the spacial aspects, guaranteeing its sustainability, seeking all citizen participation and in particular, the participation of the persons with a disability. This analysis will be based on the Transit Oriented Development theory (or TOD) This paper is a starting point to discuss a current issue; that is the mobility in the city and its disconnection with the urban context.
